“Wage negotiations can be nerve-wracking because of the anxiety and fear that often come with asking for more money at work. But for women, especially women of color, not negotiating your salary can have long-term consequences for how much you earn throughout your career.

Today, the average woman who works full time, earns all year 82 cents For every dollar men earn. For many colored women, this pay gap is even greater, with black women earning 63 cents for every dollar white men earn, and Native American women earning 60 cents and 55 cents, respectively, for every dollar white men earn.

This wage gap, which has closed at just 3 cents over the past 30 years for black women, according to National Center for Women’s LawMeans black women must work until August 3, 2021 to reach the same salary as white men earned in 2020. Over a 40-year career, black women are set to lose an incredible $ 964,400 due to this pay gap, with Native American and Latin women losing even more, NWLC reports. “- Courtney Conley
