6 Signs You Nailed Your Job Interview

If there is one thing that drives people crazy when they turn to work, it is uncertainty.

Of course, you always want to get a job offer, but if recruiters give you quick feedback on the status of your application – even if it is negative – you can usually handle it pretty well. But those days after an interview where you’re not really sure where you stand can be just insane, especially if you feel you did a pretty good job.

While you will probably never know with one hundred percent certainty which direction a recruiter is leaning, there are a few signs you can look for that point to good news. So the next time you feel like harassing your recruiter or tormenting yourself because of the interview’s mental game, take a breath and just think if those six good signs were present.

6 Signs You Were Successful In Your Interview

1. Their language changes

If you hear them start changing the language from “if” to “when” or from “you / we” to “we” it is a clear indication that they feel you are appropriate. This may be an unaware sign that they are thinking of you as part of the team.

2. Their body language gives it

In a similar vein, even if an interviewer is trying to play it cool, his body language may hint at his enthusiasm for you as a candidate. Head nods, foot movements, pleasant “mmmmm” and other noises are sure signs that they want you. People do not understand how much of their inner thoughts and opinions are removed from these little movements!

3. The conversation becomes casual

The meat of an interview is going to be all business – after all, that’s how an interviewer determines if you’re suitable for the job. But if, after that, things tend towards the conversation, it’s a great sign. It shows that they are already satisfied that you are qualified to do the job, and now they have a real interest in getting to know you better in the hope that you will join the team.

4. You continue to meet more team members

It can be exhausting to meet team member after team member during a personal marathon interview, but rest assured it bodes well for your candidacy. One of the leading signs that you are successful in an interview is that the interviewer catches other people talking to you “while you are there”.

5. The interview is over

If the interview lasts longer than expected in general, it could be a sign that you went through excellently. Not everyone has free time after the interview, but if you know they are cutting back on their lunch break just to talk to you a little more, it is a sign that they think you are suitable for the job and want to get to know you even better.

Keep in mind, however, that it depends on the context to a large extent – if you run because the interviewer keeps formulating the same questions over and over again, for example, he may feel that you are not giving clear enough answers. But on the other hand, if they look really enthusiastic and dive excitedly into a variety of topics, that’s probably a good thing.

6. Your follow-up emails will receive an immediate and positive response

Interviewers usually meet with a number of people, most of whom will send them a thank you email immediately after the interview. Realistically, interviewers do not always have time to respond immediately to these comments, especially if they are candidates who were less persuasive. Therefore, if they take the time to respond to yours quickly and courteously, it may indicate interest. It not only shows that they were impressed with you, but that they are interested to the point where they interrupted what they did just to respond to you.

Of course, each, or all, of these signs are not a guarantee that you will receive an offer. And yes, many interviewers are very skilled at hiding their true feelings. Our advice is always to continue the job search activity, leverage this great interview to gain momentum and ensure more interviews. Do not give up on your search until you have a solid start date.
