International relations is the study of relations between sovereign states. Important international relations for successful businesses between countries in that they enable different governments to cooperate and share resources and information.

From trade policy to global concerns like epidemics, international relations cover a wide range of issues. A career in international relations requires skills such as communication, negotiation, teamwork and speaking in front of an audience. All of these skills can be developed and strengthened by joining University of Connecticut Model of the United Nations Organization (UCMUN).

UCMUN is a student-led organization on campus. They compete in a variety of competitions around the country to help students strengthen their speaking skills, networking and negotiation skills. Representative students compete in conferences where they can represent a country as an ambassador or historical political figure.

The UCMUN consists of 15 committees that specialize in issues ranging from criminal law to humanitarian matters. All of these committees always have new roles that may be a great way to acquire leadership experiences.

There are several benefits to being a member of UCMUN, such as:

Building trust

You will have the opportunity to work with a diverse team where you will interact with new people. After your debate where you will spend a lot of time discussing various political and economic issues, you will feel more comfortable and confident in your communication skills.

Builds a resume

The UN model is a great experience to put in your resume. It showcases your communication, leadership and networking skills. Colleges and employers recognize the importance of the UN model program because it can indicate that you have a global vision of the world and are open to different perspectives .

Receiving credit

Being a member of UCMUN can also count one credit points for the political science trend.

In conclusion, UCMUN is a great way to develop leadership and networking skills. This may seem intimidating, but the UN UCONN model has various resources and guides that can help you prepare for a diplomatic debate and a career in international relations.
